China’s Navy pulled into Naval Station Mayport for its first official visit to an East Coast U.S. base, a 5-day goodwill visit that will include a crew trip to Disney World. Times-Union reporter Dan Scanlan was there when the guided-missile frigate Yiyang, guided-missile destroyer Jinan and Chinese fleet oiler Qiandao Hu pulled into port with pomp, circumstance and some Chinese dragons.

Crab season put on hold – Crescent City California
Toxin levels to be tested weekly
The California crabbing season will be delayed until state health officials determine domoic acid levels in local shellfish are low enough they can be eaten without health risk, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced by press release late Friday.
The California Fish and Game Commission voted Thursday to postpone the start of recreational crabbing. This was followed by CDFW Director Charlton H. Bonham taking emergency rulemaking action on Friday to put off commercial harvesting. MORE
‘Happiness advantage’ over age 30 is vanishing
Are you happy? Very happy? If you’re in your 30s or older, a new study has found that you’re less likely to answer “yes” than your parents were.
The findings, being published online Thursday in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, come on the heels of another recent report that found that death rates of middle-aged white Americans have been rising, largely due to suicide and substance abuse. MORE

Michele Bachmann said that there should be a bigger effort to convert Jews to Christianity ahead of the arrival of Jesus Christ. “We recognize the shortness of the hour,” Bachmann said on Tony Perkins’ radio program during a tour of Israel of last week. “And that’s why we as a remnant want to be faithful in these days and do what it is that the Holy Spirit is speaking to each one of us, to be faithful in the Kingdom and to help bring in as many as we can — even among the Jews — share Jesus Christ with everyone that we possibly can because, again, He’s coming soon.”
