Feds Consider Ban On Bluefin Tuna Fishing As Population Dips 95 Percent

tunaOn Wednesday, The fisheries division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that it’s considering a ban on recreational and commercial fishing of Pacific bluefin tuna. After years of large-scale fishing and rising demand in the sushi industry it is estimated that as few as 40,000 adult Pacific bluefin tuna remain in the wild, around four percent of the fish’s historic average. MORE

kailuaHundreds of dead fish and other marine animals wash up on Kailua Beach Tuesday morning.  It’s another area where the State Department of Health is urging people to stay out of the water.

The brown water is on the opposite end of Kailua Beach Park.  For perspective it’s the side President Obama stays on vacation. Triceratops1While at a dig at Hell Creek formation in Montana, the scientist, Mark Armitage, came upon the largest triceratops horn ever unearthed at the site. When examining the horn under a high-powered microscope back at CSUN, Armitage was fascinated to see the soft tissue. The discovery stunned members of the scientific community because it indicates that dinosaurs roamed the earth only thousands of years in the past rather than going extinct 60 million years ago. MORE

Wrap up warm for the end of July! Arctic blast set to bring record low temperatures for the middle of summer

articThe sunny highs of July are numbered, with a dramatic drop in temperature next week when a second polar blast hits large parts of the U.S. Temperatures are forecast to be up to 20 degrees below average for this time of year, with some places experiencing a chill more usual in the fall.

A jet stream from polar regions will bring the unseasonable weather in on Sunday, with a band of thunderstorms leading it in Ohio and along the East Coast. MORE
