On Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 5:38 PM, the Gardena Police Department received a call about a traffic collision in the 17100 block of Western Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a cargo truck had collided with a pedestrian.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived on the scene to render aid. A preliminary investigation discovered the cargo truck was traveling northbound on Western Avenue, preparing to make a left-hand turn into a business. While doing so, the cargo truck collided with a pedestrian standing in the center median. The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
