Michael P. Jungers R I P 8-3-1932 – 8-24-2021
Michael passed away short of his 89th birthday. He was a member and usher at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. I helped in establishing this Church and would visit about 3 or 4 times a year. This is how I met Michael and his brother David who also attended the Church and lived with Michael. Michael in turn invited me to stay at his place when in town, since he had an extra bedroom and I accepted. I became like a member of the family for the last 15 years or so.
Michael’s hobby was making fighter airplanes of past wars. He had at least 50 of them hanging from the rafters in the garage and others around the house. He was in the Air Force and then went to work for and retired from Korean Airlines. Michael had a macho, disciplined type attitude. I found out one Sunday at Mass when a problem guy who was expelled from the Church started to enter the Church. Luckily Mike was standing by the door. In seeing him I started getting up to help Mike but he immediately shoved him out the door and locked it. As I recall, he was in his early 70’s at this time. ‘Alright Michael’, I said to myself.
David and Michael were both Dodger fans but David passed away in 2015 while Michael saw them win the world series. Mike was a Washington Redskin fan and was very upset that they took Redskins off their name. The reason I’m writing this now is Michael had problems for the last few years or so taking care of his affairs and one of our board members had to take over his affairs and it took all this time to get all the necessary papers and a grave site at the V.A. Finally on October 14, we had his funeral Mass at St. Josephs and his burial at the V.A. Cemetery in Riverside, California.
He leaves a Son Mark who lives in Arizona a nephew Matthew, his wife Holly and their two children. I would like to mention that I lost two friends named Michael in the same week, August 24th and Michael Peruzzi on August 29th 2021. Both Traditional Catholics. May the Divine Assistance remain always with us, and may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
