New American Bible funded by the Orthodox & Catholic church

The cannon of the Greek Orthodox church is the same as that of the Catholic church. They were the same group for over 1,000 years and still maintain close ties. The Orthodox church, however, uses some different names for the books (mostly because of the different between Latin and Greek) and places two Old Testament books (2 and 3 Esdras) into the main text, where the Catholic Bible adds them as an appendix.

A good modern version would be the New Jerusalem Bible with Apocrypha or the New American Bible with Apocrypha (1991 edition). Both were supported and funded by the Orthodox church (working in connection with the Catholic church), included Orthodox scholars, and are approved for use in Orthodox churches. There is no single “official” English Bible for the Greek Orthodox church.

If you can not find those, ask for any Bible that includes “the Apocrypha” Those are the additional books found in the Catholic Bible that are not included in most Protestant Bibles or the Jew’s scriptures. However they will lack 2 and 3 Esdras.

Look up what English translation of the Bible do the Orthodox use.
