MOSCOW (AP) — Heavy smoke from raging wildfires covered the Russian city of Yakutsk and 50 other Siberian towns and settlements Sunday, temporarily halting operations at the city’s airport. MORE

Wildfires in more than a dozen western states have continued to rage. Drought conditions, triple-digit temperatures and “dry lightning” have sparked more fires while making it difficult for firefighters to contain current blazes, reported CNN. MORE

There are currently 80 large wildfires raging in 13 states across the US, burning more than 1 million acres, mostly in western states, according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). MORE
