In recent months, Communist officials have removed crosses from 400 over churches in the east-central Chinese province of Zhejiang, the Associated Press reported.

“They keep a very close watch on us, and there is nothing we can do,” said an official at one church. “The situation is not good, as any attempt to re-erect the cross will be stopped.”  MORE

A priest was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head, his diocese said Friday, marking the latest in series of abductions, attacks and highway robberies against Roman Catholic clerics in an area of southern Guerrero state dominated by drug cartels.

Rev. A Russian Black Sea city declared a state of emergency Thursday after a burst pipeline spewed oil into the landlocked water body, with stormy weather hampering cleanup efforts.

The pipeline near the city of Tuapse burst late Tuesday, according to Chernomor Transneft, a subsidiary of Russia’s main oil transport company Transneft. MORE

A strong correlation exists between religiosity and personal happiness, according to a new study by the Austin Institute for the Study of Family and Culture.

The study found that people who attend religious services on a weekly basis are nearly twice as likely to describe themselves as “very happy” (45%) than people who never attend (28%).
