In recent months the news media has focused its attention on the extremely high number of marriage annulments which are annually granted by the modern “Catholic” Church, especially in the United States. An annulments is an official declaration by the Catholic Church that a marriage is invalid — that is, not a true marriage — from its very inception. LINK
Pope Francis reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s opposition to gay marriage on Wednesday, but suggested in a newspaper interview that it could support some types of civil unions. The Pope reiterated the church’s longstanding teaching that “marriage is between a man and a woman.” However, he said, “We have to look at different cases and evaluate them in their variety.”LINK
A good way to get the feel and have your hand on our Lord’s pulse would be to read the Readings and Gospel for each day in lent if daily Mass is not available.
Most of the main events that take place in Scriptures take place, from Lent to Pentecost Sunday, Creation of the World, Adam & Eve, The Passover, Ten Commandments, The Flood? The Annunciation, The Crucifixion, Resuurection, Opening of Heaven on Ascension Thursday, The Birthday of the Church & Christ’s Return on Pentecost Sunday. And I might add so should the Great Chastisement which precedes the Second Coming of Christ.

If you’re old enough to remember Archbishop Fulton Sheen, the telegenic Catholic evangelist from the 1930s to the 1960s, you may be interested that a Vatican panel of medical experts has OK’d a miracle that could inch Sheen along the path to sainthood. A family prayed to Sheen for help after their son was born and his heart didn’t start beating until an hour later.
Patmos is the Island in which the greatest vision of God’s ultimate divine wrath and anger being poured out in ways never before seen or experienced on the entire earth takes place. The terrible day when all of humanity is faced with extreme tragedy, from unprecedented natural disasters to the horrendous and corrupt acts caused by human beings, devils, and Satan himself. LINK
Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will lead the traditional opening prayer Thursday morning in the U.S. Senate. This is the first time the Dalai Lama has led the prayer, even though he has visited the Capitol many times. The Dalai Lama has been touring the United States and met with President Barack Obama in the White House last month despite China’s objections. LINK
“God warns us against a giant cataclysm that could begin in Russia and Ukraine?” this news commentary ponders. “It is not excluded.” And so it is something for us all to consider, whether or not the crisis immediately becomes a full-blown one. LINK
Pope Francis confessed Thursday that he took the rosary cross of his late confessor from his casket and wears it to this day in a fabric pouch under his cassock. He said he did so telling the late priest, “Give me half your mercy.” LINK
Record numbers of Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll support gay marriage, say adoption by gay couples should be legal and see gays and lesbians as good parents. Most oppose a right to refuse service to gays, including on religious grounds. And, by a closer margin, more also accept than reject gay marriage as a constitutional right. LINK

ROME (RNS) Il Mio Papa, a new weekly magazine that will focus entirely on Pope Francis — complete with a weekly centerfold poster of the pontiff — is scheduled to hit Italian newsstands on Wednesday (March 5).

The magazine, whose name translates to “My Pope,” will go heavy on photography and colorful layouts, according to a news release from publisher Mondadori. It’s the first magazine entirely devoted to just one pontiff.
The magazine will include stories about people and events that inspire the pope; background information on papal remarks; a “saints of the week” column; a collection of international cartoons about the pope; and a list of that week’s television programs dedicated to issues related to faith and Christianity.
Damn right they do. I remember asking a Priest professor at an Adult Theology class, “at what point does the Church consider one to be drunk?” His answer was,”Whenever he can no longer stand on their own two feet.” I replied, that’s whats wrong with the Catholic Church.” This was 45 years ago.
