Slain Cameraman Photographed Killer; Suspected to be Disgruntled Ex-Employee

CACHThe governor of Virginia reportedly said the gunman who shot and killed two TV journalists is a disgruntled former employee of the station. He was dressed all in black. Cameraman Adam Ward captured the man approaching as he fired at him and reporter Alison Parker. The shooter has not yet been identified. According to the station manager Jeffrey A. Marks, it appears that the cameraman was shot first, and Parker was shot while running away. SOURCE

India’s Muslim women seek marriage, divorce rights

-copyNEW DELHI, Reuters – More than 90 percent of Muslim women surveyed in India want the “triple talaq” divorce ritual and polygamy banned from family civil law in the country, a study by a women’s rights organization said on Friday.

The Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA) said its survey also showed that three quarters of interviewees wanted a ban on child marriage, indicating a need for reforms in the Muslim personal law which governs family-related issues in India. MORE

Almost 80,000 sign UK petition for Netanyahu arrest

Part-NIThe petition was launched earlier this month by British citizen Damian Moran and is posted on the government’s website.

“Under international law he (Netanyahu) should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the UK for the massacre of over 2,000 civilians in 2014,” Moran said, referring to the 51-day offensive by Israeli forces in Gaza last year.

If the number of signatories reaches 100,000, the petition can be considered for debate in Britain’s parliament. MORE

TYPNine people died in Mountain Province and Benguet in the northern highlands after their houses were buried in rocks and mud. A man was killed in nearby Ilocos Norte province after he was hit by a falling tree, the national disaster council said in a report.

Three people were reported missing in flooded areas while seven others were injured. Close to 13,000 people had been evacuated by nightfall, the report said. MORE
