Risk of Collapse at Jesus’ Tomb Unites Rival Christians

07jesustomb-span-master675JERUSALEM — It was a typical day at the shrine around what many believe is the tomb of Jesus in Jerusalem’s Old City. A Greek Orthodox choir sang inside a room facing the baroque structure. But the voices were drowned out when chanting Armenian priests and monks circling the shrine raised theirs.

“Sometimes they punch each other,” Farah Atallah, a church guard wearing a fez, observed with a shrug.

Mr. Atallah is a seasoned witness to the rivalries among the Greek Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox and Roman Catholic communities that jealously share — and sometimes spar over — what they consider Christianity’s holiest site, inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. MORE

Jesus: More than Mr Nice Guy?

national basilica…is Jesus more than a “Mr. Nice Guy” who showers each of us with mercy? There was an early Christian heresy labeled Marcionism and, like many heresies, it reappears again and again. Marcionism rejected the mean, judgmental God of the Hebrew Scriptures (or “Old Testament”) in favor of the nice loving God of Jesus. In fact, it carried this view to perhaps its logical extreme by rejecting the Old Testament as canonical for Christians and denying that Yahweh was God. I say that the current views about Nice Guy Jesus bear a great deal of similarity to Marcionism because the current views reject any image of Jesus where He, like the God of the Old Testament, is judgmental. Under performing headlights Half of traffic fatalities

headlights24n-1-webThere may be a reason why people have trouble seeing while driving at night, and it’s not their eyesight. A new rating of the headlights of more than 30 midsized car models gave only one model a grade of “good.”

Of the rest, about a third were rated “acceptable,” a third “marginal” and a third “poor.” The difference between the top- and bottom-rated models for a driver’s ability to see down a dark road was substantial, according to the study released Wednesday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an industry-funded organization that evaluates automotive safety. COMMENT: Liberals moving to a conservative state?

Like Mark Levine says, ‘liberals are like locust, they destroy their own state and then move on to destroy and decimate yet another state.’ ;( Adios the Great State of Texas. Look at the once red states: New Hampshire (now blue), Nevada (purple) and parts of Florida (purple). They were once free red Conservative States.

Only 50 percent of Italians call themselves Catholic

People stroll in front of the Pantheon's ancient temple downtown in RomeROME (RNS) Italy may be the spiritual home of 1.2 billion members of the Catholic Church around the world, but a new poll shows only 50 percent of Italians consider themselves Catholic.

The poll, published in the liberal daily L’Unita on Tuesday (March 29), challenges long-held perceptions that Italy is a ”Catholic” country, despite the popularity of Pope Francis and the historic role of the Vatican City State in the heart of Rome.

In addition to the 50 percent who consider themselves Catholic, the poll, conducted in Italy by research firm SWG, found that 13 percent defined themselves as “Christian.” MORE

Israeli Companies Leaving West Bank in Apparent Response to Boycott Pressure

SODResponding to international boycott pressures and other constraints, a growing number of Israeli companies operating in the West Bank are moving their facilities to locations within the country’s internationally recognized borders, according to a report prepared by Gush Shalom, an anti-occupation organization that monitors such activities.
The report, obtained by Haaretz, shows that aside from the recent high-profile cases of Ahava, the Dead Sea skin care product company, and SodaStream, the seltzer-machine manufacturer, other prominent Israeli companies have also been part of this trend, even if they have managed to evade publicity. Homeschooling without God

lead_960The modern homeschooling movement is one of revolt. From its humble beginnings in the ’70s, led by graduates of the hippie generation who saw public schools as too constrained and religious, to its pop-cultural peak in the ’80s and ’90s under conservative Christians who wanted more God and less evolution in the classroom, homeschoolers and their parents have pushed aggressively against mainstream education.
