23161857HANOI — Since their December arrival in Vietnam, US Ambassador Ted Osius and his husband have become the most prominent gay couple in the South-east Asian country.

Mr Osius and Mr Clayton Bond landed with their toddler son shortly before the government abolished its ban on same-sex marriage. Now the couple, who recently adopted an infant girl, find themselves ambassadors of the nascent LGBT rights movement spreading across the country. MORE

Mitt Romney.

VIDEO: West Virginia flood turns into a nightmare

“It was just like buckets of water falling out of the sky.”

Widespread flooding in parts of West Virginia are leaving thousands homeless. Governor Earl Ray Tombliln declared a federal disaster, and the prolonged cleanup effort is in process. The flood destroyed entire areas of the state, cut off power to many, and washed out roadways. According to officials, more than 1,200 homes were severely damaged. On Sunday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency began accepting resident applications in the three counties that were most severely hit.

200,000 Buddhists Just Turned From False Gods to Jesus Christ

Reuters-Dalai-Lama-Tibet-MonkAll the revival needed was the first spark of a Tibetan monk. When he converted to Christianity last year, the revival fire exploded. Now, more than 200,000 Tibetans have accepted Jesus into their lives, according to multiple reports.

Asian Access’ Joel Handley says he believes much of the faith sweeping the region stems from Christian response to the devastating Nepalese earthquake more than a year ago.

“They haven’t seen Buddhists, Hindus or other religious groups helping in the midst of the rubble. Rather, week after week, it is the followers of Jesus who have proved the test of time, sacrificed their own lives to serve and been the hands and feet of Jesus,” Handley says.   MORE

New ‘Rare Sugar’ Making Waves In Asian Food Industry

SUGARKagawa University researchers have developed a way to mass-produce a “rare sugar” that has 70 percent the sweetness of regular sugar but also prevents blood sugar and fat buildup.

Rare sugars, of which there are 50 or so varieties, is not readily found in the wild and have various functions and great potential for use in the food industry, pharmaceuticals and other applications. Its popularity as a healthy substitute for real sugar appears to be on the threshold of exploding nationally and possibly globally according to this article at asahi.com. China ‘bans Lady Gaga’ after Dalai Lama meeting

LDYLady Gaga has been barred from China following a meeting with the Dalai Lama, according to a report from the Apple Daily, a Hong Kong-based newspaper.

The meeting, which was streamed on Facebook, took place at the annual United States Conference of Mayors Sunday and has been viewed nearly 3.5 million times. The pair discussed mental health, yoga, meditation, and the world, in the approximately 20-minute long video available on Lady Gaga’s Facebook page. MORE
