Turkish government seizes Syriac Orthodox properties
The government of Turkey has seized more than 50 properties from the Syriac Orthodox Church in the country’s Mardin province.
The government’s religion ministry said that ownership permits had lapsed for the properties in question—including churches, monasteries, and cemeteries. Many of the properties are no longer in regular use, although Syriac officials report that the cemeteries, for instance, are still used on occasion for memorial services.
One of the properties, the Mor Gabriel monastery, has considerable historic value. The 1600-year old monastery is one of the world’s oldest.

Thousands flee their homes as floods hit Germany
Record floods engulfed the historic eastern German city of Dresden today, swamping its Baroque architecture and driving thousands from their homes.

Environmentalists have an honest concern over the welfare of our planet but I don’t think we all realize the energy consumption of our nation. This one statistic of roughly 400 million gallons of gasoline a day is mind boggling. And this is just one product. I can’t even begin to fathom the amount of all the other products. So, yes lets keep switching to cleaner energy as long as we don’t punish the consumer with shortages and higher costs.
