A record 65.3 million people were uprooted worldwide last year, many of them fleeing wars only to face walls, tougher laws and xenophobia as they reach borders, the United Nations refugee agency said on Monday.
The figure, which jumped from 59.5 million in 2014 and by 50 percent in five years, means that 1 in every 113 people on the planet is now a refugee, asylum-seeker or internally displaced in a home country. MORE
Want a brain boost? Grab a stick of gum and get chewing, new research suggests. Though you may want to ditch that wad before trying any mental gymnastics, as gum only helps improve test scores if chewed before, not during, testing.
The chewing motion gets blood flowing to the head, the researchers suggest, where it improves memory, according to how quickly a test-taker can recall information in the lab. The effect only lasted a few minutes, but researchers think chewing gum before a test could give students an advantage in some ways. MORE

As Southern California continues to struggle through this summer’s unrelenting smog, a study released Wednesday, Aug. 10, gives a stark reminder of why air quality matters.
Researchers believe that hundreds of people die each year because of Southern California’s poor air quality. Pollution levels routinely exceed the levels deemed safe by health professionals.

Jeb Bush is resolutely #NeverTrump but his son, George P. Bush, no longer is.
George P. Bush, the Texas land commissioner, is breaking with his father, a former Donald Trump Republican primary rival, to back the GOP nominee. George P. Bush’s move comes after a nasty Republican primary battle in which Trump repeatedly mocked Jeb Bush, a former Florida governor, as “low energy,” among other insults. MORE
It is sinful to slander or attack a Pope even if he be a Heretic Pope. My reply to these complainers is: Why do they accept him as pope while rejecting his authority? They are one and the same! Pre-Vatican II they would have been told to submit or incur excommunication. It’s because they want him to be pope and not be pope, not because they have a Catholic spirit or faith but because they feel they can say whatever they want and rebel with out a true and factual explanation. One of the best kept secrets in history is the Monarch Mind-control programming which uses trauma-based mind control along with state of the art mind control to create humans who are totally controlled by a ‘handler’ without even knowing that they are controlled. This is accomplished by sophisticated use of the brain’s ability to disassociate, which is used to the extreme to create structured multiple-personality- disordered minds.
The laughing stock that is the Novus Ordo Church is getting more and more absurd by the day. A few weeks ago was the first time we heard about a substantial scholarly critique of “Pope” Francis’ supposed “Apostolic Exhortation” Amoris Laetitia, the blasphemous and heretical document in which Francis undermines not only Catholic teaching on sexuality but obliterates the very foundations of Catholic moral theology. (See our memes that illustrate the absurd effects of the teaching contained in Amoris Laetitia.) MORE
