Denmark confiscates thousands of euros from migrants

COPENHAGEN, June 30 — Danish police announced today they confiscated cash worth nearly €11,000 (RM49,000) from migrants under a controversial law allowing authorities to seize valuables from people trying to obtain asylum in the country.

It marked the first time police used the law, which took effect in February.

“The police in Copenhagen have seized around 79,600 kroner (RM37,427) from five foreigners who were trying to enter the country with fake identity papers,” the police said in a statement. MORE

In an interview with The New York Times, Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg shared her concerns about a Trump presidency: 

“I can’t imagine what this place would be ― I can’t imagine what the country would be ― with Donald Trump as our president. For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be ― I don’t even want to contemplate that.”

Discovery of Philistine cemetery in Israel

Archaeologists appear to have found a cemetery belonging to the Philistines for the first time ever, along with the remains of 200 people who were buried there. And together they might help shed light on one the Bible’s most mysterious people.

The scientists have said that the members of the Biblical nation didn’t appear to be “philistines” – finding the people buried alongside jewellery and perfumed oil. They will now conduct further tests that could shed yet more light on the maligned people. MORE

Planned power cut at Death Valley on Saturday means no escaping 116-degree heat

The temperature is forecast to reach 116 degrees during the planned 12-hour power outage Saturday that’s needed to repair damaged power lines, according to a park statement. MORE

Florida city council may halt opening prayers to stop Satanist’s invocation

SATA(RNS) The city council in Pensacola, Fla., will consider ending the traditional practice of inviting local clergy to deliver an opening prayer at meetings in order to thwart an invocation planned for July 14 by a representative of the Satanic Temple West Florida.

City Council President Charles Bare said he will propose that regular meetings begin with a moment of silence instead. MORE
