Ugandan lawmakers on Friday passed an anti-gay law that toughens the punishment for homosexuality, which will see repeat offenders jailed for life. The bill also makes it illegal to not report gay people and criminalizes the public promotion of homosexuality — including discussions by rights groups. LINK

A group of researchers from the Nordic Society for Invention and Discovery, based in Malmö, Sweden, claims to have the solution. It is a device similar to a helmet that is installed on the dog’s head, which monitors brain activity, translating the dog’s thoughts into human language. The device is called “No More Woof”. LINK

The world media is increasingly losing interest in the foreign-fueled war still raging in Syria between the Assad regime and an assortment of Islamist rebel groups backed by the Obama administration, Sunni Arab dictators, and European powers. LINK

In Syria, Islamists have again captured the Christian town of Maaloula. They took prisoner 12 nuns two weeks ago and have since held them in the neighbouring town of Yabroud. Meanwhile, Internet antique shops have featured offers to sell Maaloula relics. That’s the way the Jabhat al-Nusra fighters are earning their daily bread. LINK

The New Mexico Supreme Court unanimously affirmed on Thursday the right of same-sex partners to marry in the state, reasoning that the “protections and responsibilities that result from the marital relationship shall apply equally” to them and to opposite-sex couples. LINK

The New York City medical examiner says the combined effects of cocaine and heroin killed the popular pastor of a Florida megachurch. Results released Thursday ruled the death of Zachery Tims accidental. LINK

The reasoning for this bill stems from one incident in January 2013 where a 14-year-old boy died after being beaten by his mother’s boyfriend while being taught at home. …However, that brings up an interesting point to counter the need for such a bill. The abuse was reported by the public school teachers to authorities and nothing was done. LINK
