ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS POPE PAUL VI

PAINFUL ON EACH OF MONS. MARCELLO LEFEBVRE
Wednesday, 1 September 1976You may expect from us this morning a few comments to the celebration of the Mass in Lille of Monsignor Lefebvre Marcello, who had already been “suspended divinis” and then had the prohibition of making such a celebration, because of the ordination of priests he accomplished Ecône at the end of last June, despite the explicit and to him previously mentioned canon law to the contrary and despite the precept that wefraternally he communicated to refrain from pursuing a line as damaging for the Church.

And you wait maybe some our response to the very serious accusations he publicly spoken against this Apostolic See, against the Ecumenical Council and against our person.

But no, we want to abstain at this time to refer to the similar theme, although now made all the more serious in its objective terms, and for the Church and for us personally all the more bitter. It is clear that we can not but strongly deplore this case. But now we will invite you and all the faithful clergy and good Catholics, not to mention all the sensible people that follow this painful story with anxious interest, to pray to the Lord that he wants to inspire the Brother in question, and to those who are the followers, best advice and effective loyalty to the Holy Catholic Church, for whose peace and harmony together implore the abundance of divine.
