Joseph’s trip to Las Vegas for all Saints day weekend.

First thing I noticed in North Las Vegas neighborhood, there was hardly any Halloween displays let alone activities. Copy of the house I stayed at. Wow a different world.

In attending St. Joseph’s in the down town area of Las Vegas there was scheduled 3 Masses for the day.  8:00 am 12.00 Noon and 5:30 pm. After the 8:00 am Mass on weekdays about 25 homeless arrive for their daily breakfast which starts after Father Krier gives his blessings. The people who prepare and hand out the food are not all church members. Some are community serve people sent to the church by the courts, some others are ex-homeless who got back to a straight life.

After the feedings, Father has to hit up on three 7-11 stores for their expired food, donuts and the like which are used for the needy and students after class. Father also handles the mail for many of the homeless and the office can be a revolving door and every once in a while you get one or two ladies who are high on drugs. Funny I thought, why the ladies? One good sized one I had to cool off, she was shaking from head to toe. Once I assured her that she could see Father after Mass, she quietly walked away and surprisingly didn’t come back.

I get my computer work done in between Masses and chores. Took up the collection at the 12:00 Noon Mass.

On all Souls day we had two Masses in a row then went out for breakfast at my favorite coffee shop. Then spent most of the day in the office working on my computer.

On Sunday, after the first Mass my friend and I go to the Main Street Station for a free buffet. He gets coupons in the mail, ha.  After my friend goes home and I go back in time for the end of the second Mass to see the few remaining friends I have their and have coffee in the lunch room. One lady will be 100 in December. Wow. She’s still coming to Mass.

I decided to stay for the 12:00 noon Mass because I lost contact with my Mexican friends who go there and it paid off as I was able to make new contacts with newer people who were not aware of my booklets and web site.

So all in all it was a good trip, the first 2 days was cold for Vegas but warmed up Saturday and Sunday.

Since I helped establish that Church I visit about 3 or 4 times a year. All Saints, St. Josephs day, Pentecost Sunday or Trinity Sunday if Father is having Confirmations on Pentecost Sunday. The fourth visit is optional.
Well that’s how it is in the life of Joseph.

Grace be with you, in Christ, Joseph B. D. Saraceno
